Five regions.
Five different wilds.

Rajasthan is not one wildlife destination. It is several. Tiger country. Leopard hills. India's first leopard reserve at the edge of a heritage city. Returning forests. Quiet sanctuaries off the circuit. We work in five — chosen for what they do well, and for how they fit together.

Bengal tiger in Ranthambore
I / V · Eastern Rajasthan

Ranthambore

Tiger country, at close range.

Dry deciduous forest, the ruins of a 10th-century fort, and one of the densest tiger populations in India. The most forgiving introduction to Indian tiger country, and — for travellers who stay long enough to move through multiple zones — one of the most rewarding.

Leopard in Jawai
II / V · Southern Rajasthan

Jawai & Bera

Leopards among granite hills.

Granite boulders, Rabari shepherds, and a leopard population that has quietly rewritten what coexistence with humans can look like. One of the highest densities of big cats found anywhere in the world — on rock, at eye level, at golden hour.

Jhalana Leopard Reserve, Jaipur
III / V · Eastern Rajasthan

Jaipur & Jhalana

Leopards at the edge of the city.

India's first designated leopard reserve, fifteen minutes from Jaipur International Airport. Diurnal leopards, active in daylight. Open twelve months a year. The only Rajasthan wildlife destination open through monsoon, and the only one paired with a heritage city that has four centuries of cultural depth.

Sariska forest
IV / V · Northern Rajasthan

Sariska

Quiet forests, returning tigers.

Thicker than Ranthambore, smaller than expected, with a story worth sitting with — a park that lost all of its tigers to poaching in 2004 and was the first in India to have them brought back. Today's tigers descend from those translocations.

Kumbhalgarh hills
V / V · Southern Aravallis

Kumbhalgarh

Sanctuary country, off the map.

No tigers. Walking safaris through Aravalli forest. Sloth bears around the rocks at dusk. The 36-kilometre wall of Kumbhalgarh Fort watching from the ridge. Most often planned as the quiet close to a longer journey.
